Podcast #35- Conversation with Eli Burg

This weeks podcast is another in what I hope will be a series of “21st Century Deadheads”!

Eli and I connected a little while back- I had the best time hearing his stories and music picks! Growing up with Deadhead parents, Grateful Dead and other classic tunes were part of his childhood soundtrack. One day during sophomore year in high school Eli surprised his Mom when he came home from school and picked out some Dead to listen to together – and the rest was history…..

Eli got to go to Fare Thee Well in Santa Clara- a pretty amazing first live show- followed up with Dead and Company the next summer at Shoreline…..after that he was in for the live shows hook line and sinker! Eli talks about some experiences where the Grateful Dead (the song Mission In The Rain in particular) provided some comfort with musical therapy- something I can certainly relate to & takes us to a 3 show run of Dark Star Orchestra in Berkeley this past February.

The last couple of stories took us to 2 days before we taped the podcast- so as close to real time as I think I’m gonna get. Eli sneaked in a 6th song- so this podcast is super sized, I think we could have talked and played tunes for hours!  He excitement is infectious- and and I for one cannot wait to hear what is next along the road for Eli- I’m pretty sure it will include a lot of live music!
