Podcast #44- Conversations with Beth Lavar~ aka ~ ohcannabeth! Plus Extra Guest- Althea!!
This week we get to hear the stories and music from Beth Lavar- or know by the Twitterworld Dead Community- ohcannabeth!
While we were in touch via Twitter for the past year or so- we really became connected over Dead & Co Couch Tour and a community thread Beth started the day of Blossom – and is going through today!
Beth takes us to Canada when she discovered The Dead – live tapes- and more. She shares her adventure from summer of 1998 when she was drawn to see the “prophet on the burning shore” which led to on a trip to the West Coat- catching The Other Ones show at Shoreline sealed the deal. Many adventures- places seen- people met- they ultimately made it down to Mountain view CA- of course the show was amazing! Beth and her friend made it back up to British Columbia- over to Victoria Island – and found herself where she calls “home” on the West Coast of Canada….
Beth and I talk about being “born again” Deadheads which is a term I love! From our teen years- Beth, myself and so many others have been Dead to the Core- all our adult lives – somewhere along the line while the music and intrinsic qualities that come with being a deadhead remained in place- identifying yourself as a deadhead was not in the forefront of daily lives. Then in 2015 comes Fare Thee Well + social media groups and relationships on line mushrooming – musicians and bands playing music and set lists inspired by The Dead all over the county- add a Owsley worthy dose called Dead and Company tours and we are BACK and Weir are EVERYWHERE- somewhere at the end of this rainbow is a new generations of deadheads getting on the bus every day- its really all quite extraordinary !
The end of the podcast goes off its beaten path when we end with Let it Grow- it was the right song at the right time. And THEN I connected with Althea- and she tells us upon scrutiny – about why that space was getting hot- along with some additional updates and stories……….
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Thanks for the kind shout out Beth! Love sharing the music that brought so much love into my life and others. There really is nothing like a Grateful Dead Show. ✌️❤️😀🎶
Very cool hearing this! Nice to find other people who have been fans for decades then were “born again” after Fare Thee Well, and what a common experience that was for so many, including myself (Chicago 7/4).
Thanks for all your work and spreading the luv & music!
