Podcast #48- Conversation with Peter Ferioli

This podcast with Peter Feroli is a special one! We met in August at his beautiful home in the Oakland Hills in CA- with views that went all the way to the San Francisco Bay, in HIS podcasting studio- all of which was a WOW afternoon!

Peter is in podcasting- creating & producing for his “real job” which is uncommon – and really cool! He is the man behind The Rock N Roll Archaeology project – which host a selection of podcasts- Deeper Digs- Rock Talk- Reel Rock and others, all relating to music and in particular post mid -20th Century Rock and Roll.

Within his core passion for music is The Grateful Dead -or as its said- he is Dead to the Core…..I  walked in and on the bookcase I saw a awesome Deady- Bear collections- every book that I have seen written about the Dead- some original- many signed etc. All this- the view and a REAL microphone & sound system – talking to Peter I was in heaven!

Peter shares his stories around leaving the East Coast on a summer tour 1988, with his wife- working as usher at The Warfield – specifically so he could be there- for the Jerry Garcia Band shows- to inspiration he gained working for Bill Graham Presents. We talk about special time around the band that was a turning point that became an “Grateful Dead Era” in the late 80’s- early 90′. Peter selects some thoughtful songs that supports those memories- including a rap by Ken Kesey on Halloween 1991 after the death of Bill Graham- and the last time we hear Brent play live singing The Weight in Illinois July 1991.

Peter and his wife were so warm and welcoming- and invited my 2 kids to play with their son while we taped the podcast. On the way out he surprised them with gifts- a Bertha Deady Doll for my 7 year old daughter- and a football for my football fanatic 10 year old son- who’d showed up in a jersey that sparked immediate comradery with Peter on that mutual love in life. It felt like visiting family- even though we had JUST met – and it was- meeting part of this family that is our Deadhead community family I am grateful to be a part of!!!

As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!
