Podcast #69- Conversation with Eric Edholm
This weeks episode with Eric Edholm is such a cool example how being a Deadhead can transcends your typical circle of people you may meet in life- AND on social media & brings us together through this solid- common core.
Eric and I met on Twitter a few months ago. Eric is a sport writer ( in particular NFL.) he writes for Pro Football Weekly & has quite for a list of impressive sports publication he has contributed to. I’m not a follower of NFL, but I noticed him because his account has a blue check mark = verified. For me it is always intriguing when someone who is “verified” follow me on social media, sometimes its a Deadhead, sometimes a bot/ not the real person etc. I sent Eric a PM and asked, “are you into the Dead” he enthusiastically responded he was listening at the time! We got to chatting- I asked if he would share some of his stories and music, and he was super pumped to talk some Good Ole Grateful Dead!
When I asked Eric for music picks, he picked songs from 4 shows, all at Alpine Valley Music Theater. In what I’ve come understand is typical Deadhead fashion, one of his song picks was actually a trio of 3 songs- so classic. His show picks bring us to Alpine Valley in 3 of the shows are the July 17/19/19 1989 run, a fantastic run and their final shows at this amazing venue! The movie Downhill From Here was recorded at the July 17 show. Eric also added in one tasty selection from 1982 to encore with.
We have so much fun chatting – and I learned so much about Alpine Valley Music Center in East Troy WI. “Lately it occurs to me” how much incredible knowledge I have obtained in the past couple of hears through this podcast! Learning about more history of the Grateful Dead, special venues, specific shows, all star years, different era’s, etc. I have also gotten the opportunity to be exposed to SO MUCH music I would not have specifically looked for or probably would of never heard if not for the podcast and all the incredible Deadheads I have gotten to meet- get to know & learn from, going from strangers to friends. For this I am truly GRATEFUL.
