#1 Introduction & Welcome
Podcast #74- Conversations With Robert Smith, My Husband/Music Fanatic & Not A Deadhead
This episode’s guest is very close to home….I got to talk to and share conversation and a music selection with my husband Rob.
While he is a huge music fanatic and a ride or die Beatles enthusiast; he is not a “Deadhead”. It was so much fun chat in our usual night time hang spot and have a conversation that was not unlike MANY more before this one. We talk about him being so into such a range of music his respect for The Grateful Dead, other incarnations and iterations of the band, how special and talented Jerry Garcia was as a solo musician/band mate and what its like to be married to a HARDCORE Deadhead who makes a Dead Community podcast and chases as much live music as possible.
We have a lot of laughs while discussing our editorial feelings on music, musicians, musical influences / influencers, song covers and the intangibles of the Deadhead community…
Once in a while you can show them the light, in the strangest of places when you look at it right……

Podcast #73- Conversations With A Terrific Trio Of Tourheads
This week I was able to talk to 3 different Deadheads I met on the Dead and Company 2018 Summer Tour, Steve Dubinski, Jake Root and Shari Gleason.
Steve and I first met in Mansfield the day of his maiden voyage to vending at shows. Steve was on the “list” of friends I have met through Social Media. When I got to his booth, he welcomed me in, invited me to take a load off, and make myself at home. Steve continued to be a friendly spot for so many friends throughout his tour. After his first go at vending, he realizes that being at the shows (not just Dead related) is where he needs to me. Steve’s Grateful Sweats can be found at www.gratefulsweats.com
Jake Root is the second person I get to chat with. When I met Jake for the first time in Mansfield it was a day of “yes”. He was as kind, as could be. I first got to know Jake when he began sharing a live stream for a couchtour last Fall where welcomed so many onto his home to watch the shows together. When the live feed got to 15,000 people, it was time to close it down. The journey he began was far from over, especially when he got out to the shows in early 2018 & continued to meet and get to know so many Deadheads that he know considers family.
Shari Gleason is the final conversation. I met Shari in Atlanta- a story we share, which still makes me laugh & talk about our shared passion of live music, and how the Dead and Company tour reignited for bothe her and me the passion of chasing the music. Shari was such a presence for so many, traveling solo to something like 15 shows. Shari’s sense adventure is incredibly inspiring- and to me will always be synonymous with touring!

Podcast #72- Conversation with Deadhead Marc James
Podcast #72-Conversation with Deadhead Marc James
Welcome back from Stangers Stopping Strangers September hiatus – summer time come- come and gone, my oh my! I met Marc through Twitter, he is a podcaster- along with a few co hosts on a really fun podcast called The Poop Culture.
As a secret deadhead he found me- and when I checked out The Poop Culture we messaged and struck up an IM friendship. Marc was a fresh breath of Deadhead air. He is 40 years old, with memories that go back over over 30 years. While he had a brief pause in middle school and tells a really funny W.T.F. story after he finally hears The Grateful Dead from a gifted Skeletons In the Closet cassette and thinks “this sucks- its COUNTRY?!?”. Fast forward to high school when he fell in love with The Dead climbed on the bus & has been a “closeted deadhead” ever since. He was so grateful to have the chance to wave his flag and talk to another Deadhead that “got it” I assured him that I would be the first of many to “get it”
Marc and I discuss his initiation to the Grateful Dead song book via studio albums, with a graduation into live shows. We both agreed there is something comforting and special about the spectacular live shows ( and live versions of songs) that were made into studio albums – in particular Without A Net and Cornell 77′. Marc and I trade notes on how we have master playlists that then get broken down into categories that we run though, I shared my love for the playlist of ballads that are always there with a message that resonates- whether it is coming from Stella Blue, Ripple, Crazy Fingers and my current obsession Jerry Garcia Bands ” My Sisters and Brothers”. Marc just digging into the world of Jerry Garcia Band was not familiar, so we did a deviation in the set list…..
Having the opportunity to talk to Marc after a couple months off of recording was such a wonderful reminder of how grateful I am to be a part of this community. The strangers I have met virtually- as guests I have still yet to meet in person, guests I now get to hang out with and call my friends & what an honor it is to be a conduit for sharing the stories and music with and from the Deadheads via Strangers Stopping Strangers- for that I am truly grateful

Podcast #71- Conversation with Deadhead Anthony Serpico
Podcast #71-Conversation with Deadhead Anthony Serpico
This episode I had the honor and privilege to talk to Deadhead Anthony Serpico. Anthony and I connected through posts on Instagram. Although the podcast is made once or twice a month, I keep the Strangers Stopping Strangers vibes freshly updated with a post each day on social media. Many Deadheads I meet, I later tell about the podcast which is the origin and ultimately the backbone of all my social media. Anthony slid into my DM’s ( term I just learned 🙂 ) and we started chatting and I asked if he would share his stories on the podcast. It took almost a year, but we finally got our schedules together, and it was worth the wait!
Anthony started to see The Grateful Dead in 1972- and covered a lot of ground in the overall New York/ CT/ NJ area. From Madison Square Garden runs to the ultimate show at Watkins Glen in July 1973 Anthony experienced so much magical live music history.
With all these years of being a Deadhead and seeing some of the greatest shows of all time, one aspect I loved about talking to Anthony is how he is incredibly enthusiastic about the music scene today! He speaks passionately about his experiences at Dead and Company shows, and tremendous admiration for the band mates, so much so, that the first song we picked to play (out of something like over a 1000 songs to choose from) is Dead and Company’s Cumberland Blues from November 12, 2017 at Madison Square Garden.
Anthony was so much fun to talk- a man that is kool with a capitol K- an integral part of our deadhead community – and in my opinion one of the reasons that the music never stops!

Podcast #69 – Conversation with Eric Edholm
Podcast #69- Conversation with Eric Edholm
This weeks episode with Eric Edholm is such a cool example how being a Deadhead can transcends your typical circle of people you may meet in life- AND on social media & brings us together through this solid- common core.
Eric and I met on Twitter a few months ago. Eric is a sport writer ( in particular NFL.) he writes for Pro Football Weekly & has quite for a list of impressive sports publication he has contributed to. I’m not a follower of NFL, but I noticed him because his account has a blue check mark = verified. For me it is always intriguing when someone who is “verified” follow me on social media, sometimes its a Deadhead, sometimes a bot/ not the real person etc. I sent Eric a PM and asked, “are you into the Dead” he enthusiastically responded he was listening at the time! We got to chatting- I asked if he would share some of his stories and music, and he was super pumped to talk some Good Ole Grateful Dead!
When I asked Eric for music picks, he picked songs from 4 shows, all at Alpine Valley Music Theater. In what I’ve come understand is typical Deadhead fashion, one of his song picks was actually a trio of 3 songs- so classic. His show picks bring us to Alpine Valley in 3 of the shows are the July 17/19/19 1989 run, a fantastic run and their final shows at this amazing venue! The movie Downhill From Here was recorded at the July 17 show. Eric also added in one tasty selection from 1982 to encore with.
We have so much fun chatting – and I learned so much about Alpine Valley Music Center in East Troy WI. “Lately it occurs to me” how much incredible knowledge I have obtained in the past couple of hears through this podcast! Learning about more history of the Grateful Dead, special venues, specific shows, all star years, different era’s, etc. I have also gotten the opportunity to be exposed to SO MUCH music I would not have specifically looked for or probably would of never heard if not for the podcast and all the incredible Deadheads I have gotten to meet- get to know & learn from, going from strangers to friends. For this I am truly GRATEFUL.

Podcast #68 – Conversation with Victoria Pardue Carpenter
Podcast #68- Conversation with Victoria Pardue Carpenter
This weeks conversation with Vikki is a love story. We connected through the Deadhead community via social media- that part of the story is a fairly common in the beginning of the blog for who the deadhead “guest” is on the episode. What really stood out and made Vicky not like other girls, making me wanted to hear more about her stories, is Vikki and her long time love Carp got MARRIED at a DEAD show!
I along with many others saw the beautiful video of Vikki and Brian (otherwise know as “Carp” short for his last name Carpenter) at the Dead And Company Columbus Show on November 24, 2017 – surrounded with friends and family- so incredibly happy – officiated as husband and wife. The video includes so much love and was completed with a serenade of Deadheads (friends and family along with complete “strangers”) singing Ripple- a really amazing story that I wanted to hear & share!
Vikki’s stories on this episode begin with the wedding- how it came to be & all her gratitude for the magic that the special day included. The first music we hear is the crowd singing Ripple- after the wedding was officiated. Flashing back into time Vikki shares the backstory of discovering The Dead in the late 80’s in Indiana, college at Purdue where she and Carp met and their story began. She takes us to New Orleans, where their stories parted ways- while having a high life & living the good life- they said good bye- but they meant please don’t let me go. Years later, around 2010 they reconnected- after 15 years of life and relationships the timing was right for the next “line” in their lives, “I came to you”…..
We get to hear the next chapter of the story, which includes a trip (or 2) to New Orleans, and the prelude to coming chapters with Dead and Company 2018 Spring/Summer Tour plans. There is a party in the works -Bus Stop Solstice Festival , that their Dead Tour family are putting together on June 21, 2018, beginning at 1pm, in Barrien Center MI- about the halfway point between Blossom Show in Ohio and Alpine Valley Shows in Wisconsin. Music- camping- some vending & a guaranteed good time! I will post a link on Strangers Stopping Strangers Facebook page- or feel free to reach out via social media or email for more details.
A beautiful story with much love, family, music & community, including many strangers stopping strangers to shake their hands & share our mutual love, music and sense of this Deadhead community with Vikki & Carp!

Podcast #67- Conversation with Smrtraveled
This week I get to share the stories and song picks with 3 of the guys ( Anthony, Erick and Olek) behind Smrt Traveled. Its been awhile since I have shared a conversation and music picks with 21 Century Deadheads, I made up for lost time by having 3 friends on together. I met them through their Smrt Traveled page on Instagram page, which immediately captivated me with pictures from road adventures
Anthony, Erick and Olek share really cool stories about discovering the Grateful Dead – going to shows & carrying on the tradition of Jack Kerouac- The Great American Adventure via TOURING! With the Dead and Company 2018 Spring tour coming up the timing was perfect to get pumped up and hear what they are planning. While enjoying the tour they are going to be working on some documentary footage, selling cool shirts and creating a free digital travel guide. The guide will include info about the cities the 2018 Dead and Company tour will be at, fun bits like Grateful Dead trivia, and over all pro tips that would be helpful for a Deadhead on tour. Everything they have up their sleeves can be found on the website www.smrttraveled.com and on Instagram at Smrt Traveled.
This conversation was SO FUN! It is so invigorating & inspirational to talk to fantastic young guys and girls, hear their perspectives on the music- community- touring and the continuous spirit that will the big wheel turning and & the music never stopping!!

Podcast #66- Conversation With Roots Of Creation’s Brett Wilson
On this episode of Strangers Stopping Strangers I get to talk to-and share the stories and song picks with Brett Wilson- vocals and lead guitar for Roots Of Creation!
I decided awhile back that this podcast is and will remain the voice of the Deadheads. All different walks of our lives- from professional business people who wear suits to work, to teenagers and people I call 21st Century Deadheads, the people who saw the Grateful Dead many times back in” the day” and love revisiting those momentous experiences, to touring and recording musicians who want to share a few stories and music picks which connects to the Grateful Dead and the- inspiration that moved them brightly- as part of their musical journey.
I have been connected through social media with the guys from Roots of Creation for awhile earliest days on Twitter, checked out there album Live Free, dug there music style, went nuts for their Row Jimmy & added them to my Bands In Town list! When they announced they were working on an album dedicated to Grateful Dead songs- I was pretty pumped to hear it.
The Grateful Dub album did not disappoint! It was released on March 22, 2018 at #1 of the Billboard Reggae Charts. The album was recorded, mixed and produced by Errol Brown ( producer for Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Rebelution) and features collaborations with Stephan Marley, G.Love, and Melvin Seals. For more information in regards to press, new releases, and more all the info can be found on their website www.rootsofcreaton.com .
Brett was so much fun to chat with- we cover topics from why the fuck do they start kids in music class with the recorder- to the classic Deadhead scenario of talking in depth about a song that wasn’t on his 3-5 song podcast playlist pick- because there are just too many amazing songs to keep the discussion to 3-5 chosen songs!
As always – thank you for tuning in- and enjoy!

Podcast #65- Conversation With Martin Bispels
On this episode of Strangers Stopping Strangers I get to talk to-and share the stories and song picks with Martin Bispels!
Martin and I met through Wall Street aHead- also know as WSDA. The WASDA family is really all about networking, building relationships and ultimately many friendships. Those core values – I believe keeps any positive communities together. I reached out to Martin to ask some advice on some ideas- and that conversation out this podcast into motion.
I was thrilled have Martins ear- he has a ton of experience! Martin’s company – started after 17 years working for QVC (in many different channels) specializes in sales, marketing and business development for small to mid size companies- startups- entrepreneurs and more! Martin was so generous with his time and offered suggestions immediately. His website has more info you can find him and more info at www.growwithmartin.com . The networking I have been experiencing through our community- not limited to WSDA has been amazing! Most everyone I speak to is full of good will about spreading each others message- and skill sets- it is quite SPECTACULAR!
To that point the opening segment of each podcast is getting longer- I gave it some through and I think it is because there are more people I’m connecting to – therefore there ends up being more info & stuff updates on topics like music- ticket sales- Deadhead’s cottage business-and info about the Osiris Podcasts Network etc.
Last week Randy Freeman was the guest on episode #64 – we have since been in touch – which is awesome On the podcast we mention Woven Thread- the textile company he is a part of. In a conversation the guys at Woven Free thought it would be fun to offer podcast listeners 15% off their custom jackets- so beautiful- check them out! If you do and would like to purchase one at check out put in the code SSS for the discount- they are over at www.wovenfree.com

Podcast #64- Conversation With Randy Freedman
Podcast #64- Conversation With Randy Freeman
This week we get to hear the stories- song picks from Randy Freeman! Randy and I met via me and his business partner Dan and I meeting on Instagram. Dan & Randy are the men behind Woven Free, a very cool textile company that makes all kind of unique pieces that range from tapestry woven bracelets- to hand embroider vintage Levis jackets- all very beautiful and quality crafted. www.wovenfree.com
I received a PM message from Dan, which then led us to a conversation, and me asking if he would like to be on the podcast…..he immediately said RANDY is the guy to talk Dead with- and was he ever!!
Randy sent me a beautifully crafted letter with his song picks, that had incredible well though out memories and reasons why he selected those particular shows. Randy and I scheduled our time to talk – not super easy between 2 busy lives and a 3 hour time change- and we were ready to talk Dead- Inspiration that Moves Us Brightly and many other topics!
Randy was such a thoughtful person to talk to! Working with guitars in a career job, he is very knowledgeable about the logistics behind playing – but more than just that- he is so passionate about the music and incredibly tuned in/ compassionate to that special vulnerability that can be experienced and shared at a great show, a ride filled with ups- downs- and the curves in between that get us there.
So many laughs – and amazing music – its been said before and I’ll say it again, I hope you enjoy listening as much as we did making it!

Podcast #63- Conversation with Richard Hill- UK Calling
Podcast #63- Conversation With Richard Hill- UK Calling
This week I got the honor of talking with Richard Hill- a Deadhead and musician from England!! Richard and I met through social media – my self with podcast and Richard via the band that he is in The Grateful Dudes.
Richard has such an interesting perspective and stories as a London deadhead who discovered the music in the late 80’s – as both a musician & enthusiast! Getting the tapes- and finding other members of the Deadhead tribe was not as easy over the pond, but the English Deadheads an extension of the family- as dead-icated as any, with more patience – going spans of time between tours.
The family reunion that was the 1990 tour was an experience that Richard was a part of, and will never forget! When the band (along withall its glorious people- colors- smells etc.) came into town – everyone was READY- especially Richard! In 1990 to be listening to tapes of the band in the parking lot before, was not part of the “show” with the other band that came to Wembley. So much fun to hear all about them in the stories that Richard tells and the music he selected.
Grateful Dead- Halloween – Warewolves of London – in LONDON- that’s quite a FUCK YEAH moment!!
All the while being a huge deadhead/ fan- Richard has been playing music. He joined a tribute band in the late 80’s called The Cosmic Charlies- and is playing in a band The Grateful Dudes- with some fantastic shows- stories and recordings. The forth song we play is Feels Like A Stranger from a gig at The Brooklyn Bowl, London on August 6, 2016. For all the info on the Grateful Dudes their site is https://thegratefuldudes.bandcamp.com and can be found on FB- Twitter-
So much fun to meet and talk to Richard- hopefully one day we will be able to meet in person- Weir are Everywhere!!!

This weeks podcast is the second in a two part series- from Deadheads experiences down in Riviera Mayo Mexico at the Dead and Company shows- otherwise know as Playing In The Sand!
In this episode I get a chance to talk to Kat Wright, Craig Rutman, and Liz Field. Kat is far from a “stranger” my first Deadhead girlfriend- going back to Sophomore in high school- and one of the 4 “girls” in my PITS dorm – along with my sister and another BBF Elizabeth- a long over due “guest” who’s conversation is so much fun- hopefully we will have more laughs to share in the future! Liz and I had met through several social media channels and had a brief hello and hug on the beach- but never really got a chance to talk and get to get to know each other for this conversation Liz and I had met through several social media channels and had a brief hello and hug on the beach- but never really got a chance to talk and get to get to know each other for this conversation

Podcast #61- Conversations From Playing In The Sand – Part 1
This weeks podcast is another first in a two part series- from Deadheads experiences down in Riviera Mayo Mexico at the Dead and Company shows- otherwise know as Playing In The Sand!
Before departing for this amazing adventure, I planned to talk live with some Deadheads I met while away, and then make a post trip podcast…..by the beginning of day 2- it became very clear to me that this was an experience to soak into “being in the moment” and would have no problems getting post trip conversations and stories to share once we got home!
In this episode I talk to 3 people- Michael Sage, Susan Marston, and Rachael Anne. The first 2 “guests” I did not get to meet in person- yet- and Rachael was one of the first people I met and chatted with at the resort.
My experience was a trip beyond description- filled with family ( my sister Michelle ) BFF’s from home ( Kat and Elizabeth) I met down there – a few more recent Deadhead friends I was looking to meet & new “strangers” that became instant family. There was so much Dead Community MAGIC throughout the 5 days- that when I think about writing about it for this blog -there are too many words & not enough at the same time- so I will leave it with “It’s all a dream – we dreamed one day long ago”
The Tuesday I returned, February 20, was another special day- the podcast network I have joined launched! This network Osiris Podcasts is a group of like minded podcasts that include conversations- culture- and of course lots and lots of MUSIC! Podcast #60- Conversation With Rob Turner Part 2
Rob and I return with the second part of our conversation & Rob’s song selection.
We welcome back after listening to the tail end of Jack Straw from playing on October 20, 1983- and move down the line for more tours and shows. Rob sent me lists of 8 shows- and 2 special bonus stories- one with vey elusive music to find – many thanks to David Gans & Tales from the Golden Road to share!
We paired it into 2 shows, 4/7/87 and 7/17/89 and 2 additional stories and music where Rob brings us a little closer to Bob Weir. 3 hours of chatting in MA afternoon before a pending snow storm we- could not have been in a more cozy and warm atmosphere for sharing stories and talking music on his friends Doug & Ann Cahill’s couch- many- many THANK YOU’s to Doug and Ann!
While this conversation took place in mid January, because it’s in 2 parts the intro and today’s blog is being made on February 9. Thursday February 8 we lost John Perry Barlow- we are all taking time for gratitude & reflection for all the music- stories – and magic he brought into our world. I read a tribute written by Sean Ono Lennon that was published in the San Francisco Chronical February 8, 2018- it was amazing- to share a portion of his piece ;
“He was a wordsmith and a songsmith, a tech wizard party maniac car mechanic and bona fide lady magnet of incomparable intellect. He was am angel and a double agent, a prophet and pioneer of digital divination, a Master Mason, a Burning Man patron, an internet architect, and political maven, a psychedelic shaman, a counter culture statesman and a hero to great men”
“Fare the well, let your life proceed by its own design- nothing to tell, let the words be yours, I am done with mine”- Cassidy- JPB

Podcast #59-Conversation with Rob Turner
Podcast #59- Conversation With Rob Turner Part 1
This weeks podcast is with Rob Turner- and was so much fun to make! Rob is a fellow podcaster, the cohost of Inside Out with Tuner and Seth, a very cool listen that’s a deep dive of music and interviews, exploring many different aspects of music- especially jam bands- he is also the man behind the emerging podcast The Timeless Music Podcast. Amongst the 2 co-hosts Rob is the “lunatic deadhead” and clearly someone I needed to meet!
Rob and I talked and continued to email one another through this mutual connection to music and podcasting. This past fall we joined a team of likeminded podcasters, named Osiris Podcast Network ( more info to come next month & into the future) so now we had yet another connection and reason to meet! Rob made it up to New England for a visit, we got to sit down in person, get to know each other & share a few hours talking about music- in particular The Good Ole Grateful Dead- if we told one another about all that we knew- we could have burned off both our ears!
When I asked Rob to pick out some music to talk about and share, he came back to me with 23 songs from 15 different shows!! Needless to say this podcast could easily be a 6 part series – however for now we broke it into 2 episodes. Rob tells us about discovering music, the Grateful Dead & his experiences from the first couple years he started seeing live shows, then tours. The first of the 2 episodes ends after Jack Straw in October 1984- Episode 2 will pick up where we left off on that tour in 1984.
Rob was SO passionate about each and every show (not songs- but shows) we discussed that it was decided a link to each show in the song notes below- so many songs to fill the air!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #58- Conversation With Alicia Welch
This weeks podcast is with Alicia – a stranger that once met became a long lost BFF! Alicia and I met last summer through a group she created called Girls Who Love The Dead. While a member since inception, I learned that an exchange between her and I about getting a first time tattoo- led her to thinking ” I would love to have some Deadhead girlfriends” creating the group- and quickly making tons upon tons of Deadhead girlfriends- including myself!
Alicia shares stories about growing up in Maine with a family that had a close connection to music- a super cool story! She discovered Deadheads Freshman year, but outside of a few Seniors girls, they remained elusive. A couple years and a serendipitous story later Alicia is a invited to a show in Massachusetts….but it was not in the cards.
25 years and a few stories later- Alicia gets to live out her pent of love for the Dead at a live show, when Dead and Company toured in 2015- and played in Greensboro North Carolina! This chapter begins a happily ever after of live music and as many shows as she can make. Atlanta and scheduled Florida in 2017- now rescheduled BOTH nights Florida will kick off 2018 – who knows where she will go down the golden road!
So much fun “meeting” over the phone- all eyes are on getting to meet up, get tattoos and shake our bones at a show soon!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #57-Conversation with Tommy Fogarty
Podcast # 57- Conversation with Tommy Fogarty
Happy New Year Everyone!!!
This weeks podcast with Tommy Fogarty was so much fun- and feels like the perfect Strangers Stopping Strangers story to kick off 2018!
Tommy and I have many things in common- grew up in the same neighborhoods- a friendship/connection with the same guy who was ultimately the catalyst for us both started going to see The Grateful Dead & the wine industry- yet it took meeting through a social media thread to meet one another!
Tommy shares his stories that start off in the San Francisco hard core punk rock scene- where he first caught a glimpse of a Jerry Garcia show on Broadway across the street from Black Flag & peaked some interest- a teenage road trip up to Boreal Ridge, and to Henry J. Kaiser in Oakland- the show that locked him in. Tommy takes us down to Irvine Meadows-now into the groove traveling to shows with friends, and back home to Shoreline, a favorite venue that always packs some special stories from Deadheads who was able to catch SF Bay Area shows in the late 80’s- 90’s.
Tommy and I could have talked forever- and I have no doubt our paths will now cross in person, whether catching each other at show – or following up on his invitation to visit Thomas Fogarty Winery – in Woodside CA on a future trip “home”.
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #56 – Conversation with Brando Rich
Podcast #56- Conversation with Brando Rich
This weeks podcast I get to talk to Brando Rich- who along with his brother Dusty are the guys from Vermont who created and run www.cashortrade.org.
Cash or Trade is a social media site where people can sell- buy or trade tickets for live music shows. This is an amazing resource for everyone who loves to go to shows, but would like additional options for purchasing tickets. It fantastic for situations where its last minutes- plans change you need to sell- some friends bale- others join- you didn’t get the spot you were looking for, and on, and on. The best part, is the ticket transactions are made with real people, via in person, Paypal- etc. for FACE VALUE- Cash or Trade’s mantra is EMBRACE THE FACE.
Brando and I also talk about the social aspect of Cash or Trade- where people end up meeting through their ticket transactions- meet up before the show for a beer or whatever, and become friends- very Strangers Stopping Strangers !
Brando and I talk about a few of his meaningful shows, that tie into the Deadhead community. His first Grateful Dead show at age 14, at the Boston Garden in 1993, his return to TD Garden to see Dead and Company almost 23 years later (how the venue has changed in more ways than its name) to Fare Thee Well- a real game changers for so many of us Deadheads getting out and buying tickets to see shows!
Its the middle of December today- I hope everyone is having a peaceful holiday season- and will be back in 2018!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #54 – Conversation With Charlie Miller Part 1
Podcast #54- Conversation with Charlie Miller Part 1
This weeks podcast is with Charlie Miller – one of the most prolific tapers in The Grateful Dead archives!
Charlie has uploaded about 3000 shows up onto archive.org website, the source of happiness for many Deadheads- as well as the source for the majority of the music I upload for this podcast. The availability of music from 30 years of music for everyone to enjoy is something we are all very grateful for!
Charlie and I met close to 30 years ago in 1989 in the Bay Area. through my high school deadhead friend Katie Brown ( still one of my closest friend) When his name came up in podcast #50- a friend asked if Charlie would be on one day…..I reached out to him on Facebook and reconnected all these years later. Charlie was extremely gracious about anything I may need – music – and I said I would love to share his music picks and stories one day. He was game- and here we are!
When I asked Charlie for his music selections , 3-5 songs, he came back with 7 songs- which became 8- and then maybe 9. In the grand scheme of all the music that has passed through his hands and ears- who was I to limit his selection? I also had a feeling that he would be picking the songs for their entirety – and editing the songs down wouldn’t be conducive to this podcast- these 9 songs were picked for a reason. With 9 full length songs and our conversation- I was looking at a 2 1/2 hour podcast….I then decided to mix things up, and do the first 2 part podcast! We end with Drums from New Years Eve 1990- a memorable show we were at together with Katie- and return with Space for Part 2.
I had so much fun catching up and hearing Charlie’s stories that go back to 1979- lots of adventures- and so interesting to hear why these 9 songs were selected.
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #53 – Coversation With Red Roses, Green Gold
Podcast #53- Conversation with Red Roses Green Gold
This weeks podcast is conversations – from Red Roses, Green Gold Play – currently showing at Minetta Theater, on Minetta Lane, New York, New York- through January 7th.
The podcast is in three segments of conversation and music selections. The first is with Gigi Pritzker, a producer for Red Roses, Green Gold. Gigi and her partner in producing Ted Rawlins came upon a scrip based on a book written by Michael Norman Mann about 4 years ago, with musical accompaniment by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. They took it on- Jeff Chimenti joined as musical supervisor- and opened in New York Sunday October 29!
Gigi and I talk about how this play is wonderful for those who have an affinity for the music and the culture of the Deadhead Community, and how it is exciting to have the opportunity to share with theater goers who may come away with a totally different perspective for the Grateful Dead, and the colorful stories that Hunter/Garcia so beautifully created for our imaginations.
Natalie Storrs is my next conversation. She is an actor in the play- and while she was not familiar with the Dead music before, she wanted to come on to the podcast to share about her journey getting on board. We get to talk about Jeff and how his enthusiastic and unbelievably voracious energy is 100% authentic to the man she got to work with! I love getting to watch Jeff play with that HUGE smile on his face- so this was a really fun topic- he really is enjoying the ride!
My last conversation is with Maggie Hollinbeck- and actor in the play. Maggie chose to come on to the podcast from the perspective of someone who did come into the play with experiences of her own with the Grateful Dead and the music. Maggie share with us a story about a show she saw in high school- her appreciation of the incredibly complex music- and how special the vibes are when the energy is shared between the artists and the fans……and how the cast experiences this phenomenon at times and come off the stage “blissed out ” from all the amazing energy that is shared!
When Red Roses, Green Gold reached out to me via a magnet they came across- I was excited! I have never done any kind of sponsorship of collaboration on Strangers Stopping Strangers podcast, and while I was thrilled to spread the word & wanted it to authentic to the podcast, which is stories and music picks from the community, We decided to stick with what I do- stories and music, and as a “sponsor” Red Roses, Green Gold, would offer to give away a voucher to see the play- contest winners pick for which show!
Today’s podcast post on Facebook and Instagram I am going to run a contest! Come over to Strangers Stopping Strangers on Instagram and /or Facebook- like or follow- and post an emoji story in the comment box. There are no RULES and I’m not even sure what the winner will be based exactly on- but as it goes TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING IS JUST ENOUGH
Many thank you’s to Red Roses, Green Gold for sharing a few of the stories behind the show- and for the tickets- because really, it all comes back to music and TICKETS!!!

Podcast #52- Conversation with Nathan Duvall
Podcast #52- Conversation with Nathan Duvall
This weeks podcast with Nathan Duvall was such a BLAST!
We start off with a hello- and a thank you to the woman behind Wall Street Dead aHead Networking & our friend Deb Soloman, the friend who introduced us. Podcast #52 is the 7th guest that I have met through Deb- for those wanting to know more about who this magical Deb is and where you can find out more – check out www.wallstreetdeadahead.com
Nathan was so much fun to talk, such articulate & animated story teller! We hear the thoughts and meanings behind his 5 song picks. Nathan kicks it off the conversations with his first show in at Irvine Meadow’s in April 1987. We talk about the end camping era at Laguna Seca & Calaveras – Althea bringing it all together, and the musical & emotional chemistry between Brent and Jerry in the late 80’s through Brent’s last show. Their passion and shared pain that I believe was so integral to the amazing music they created .
After Nathan and I chat & chat and play the five song picks there are still TWO more incredible stories! The first being a piece of Nathan’s family history which was mind blowing to hear and made him feel like a little less of a stranger within that branch of his family tree. This story is the inspiration behind the artwork thumbnail- that was created by Antonio Reonegro (another member of the Dead aHead Family) an incredible artist – to see more and learn about artwork he has created you can find him at www.renegro.com
The second bonus story- tells about the production of music Nathan created called Ten Years Kashmir- Nathan talks about his inspiration to ” amplify all the emotion in a specific section of a song” through his experiences with The Grateful Dead- we then get to hear & experience this awesome piece of music…..
Podcast #52 is chock full of fun- laughs- smoking music that all I can say to sum it up is “fuck yeah”!!!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast 51- Conversation With McQuaid Family
This podcast is the first with not just one guest- but an ( almost) entire family’s worth of stories & music! Four out of the five in the Mcquaid family came together on a Sunday morning to share a few of their adventures- stories and music picks.
I met the McQuaid family- David- Kelly- Avery- Dylan and Cassidy at the Dead and Company show June 22, 2017 in Saratoga Springs New York. While camping in a nearby spot I saw a BEATUTIFUL pained bus- and went to further investigate . I was greeting by David and Kelly with a giant heap of Southern Hospitality! They welcomed me in for a tour of Sugaree- and to meet the family Avery, Dylan & Cassidy.
Sugaree was gorgeous- and everything you could dream of for a painted touring bus- and the family within it – were as kind as they get. Needless to say- I told them they would make an awesome podcast & left a magnet to stay in touch!
Their podcast tells the stories about the 2017 Dead and Company tour- Kelly and David jumping on “the bus” in 1995- the family trip to Chicago to see Fare Thee Well in 2015 (when the kids joined their parents down the Deadhead rabbit hole) their daughter Cassidy’s naming…..and more.
The McQuaids are an exceptionally special family- I’m grateful to have met- have an opportunity to share their stories & music picks – and now are a part of my Deadhead family.

Podcast #50- Staci’s Conversation with Michael Sheridan
To commemorate the 50th episode, this week the tables are turned- friend and former guest Michael Sheridan (#12) talks to me about my journey- stories- and music selections!
The first podcast was aired May 26, 2016- and is an introduction & welcome – where I describe my inspiration for Strangers Stopping Strangers- as the website says- ” a podcast adventure within the community to discuss the music, how it shaped us in the past and today, with connections to songs, shows, and people”. I also pick out 2 songs- both from the show that was on my actual birthday -Boston Garden, April 2, 1973- it was later chosen as Dave’s Pick Volume 21 – to my delight! The songs that I chose are Eyes of the World and Here Comes Sunshine- they both felt apropos.
16 months- 48 amazing guests- many now friends- ages 16 to 65+ – from all geographies & live music experiences + hundreds of smoking music picks from many different incarnations and iterations of the band!
It was suggested that I share my stories about music experiences- #50 felt like the time to do it & share “what lead up to this day” that is all I will say- because it is ALL in the podcast- lots and lots of me talking in this one!!
Reflecting back on 50 podcasts- an enormously grateful THANK YOU to everyone! My family and friends who have supported me on this adventure (especially my husband and children that live with Strangers Stopping Strangers- who have to be a part extra conversations that gets initiated ……almost daily ) The deadhead community which offers tremendous kindness & support- the 48 guests that have shared their lives & every person who has listened- – I hope a you have has few smiles…

Podcast #49- Conversation with Rob Levitsky
Podcast #49- Conversation with Rob Levitsky
This weeks podcast is an in person conversation this past August at Rob Levitsky’s home in Palo Alto CA. Rob Levitsky’s name may not be familiar with all- or even very many tuning in- but if you went to the Dead shows in the Northern California from 1987- 1995 you are very familiar with him -he is the man beneath the Dead-y Bear outfit who was at EVERY Grateful Dead show I went to.
If you are reading this & or listening and do remember the Dancing Bear that walked amongst the deadheads- did you ever wonder who it was? What he / or she was experiencing? What is the genesis of this iconic piece of Northern California Grateful Dead lore? Those question are answered are in our conversation.
It was only after attending Dead and Company in Worcester November 2015- my first East Coast ” Dead Show” experience. The show was amazing ! I was thrilled when I was able to attend the Dead and Company show the following month in my hometown of San Francisco at the Civic Center with my friends and family. Rob was one of the first people I saw when we walked in- I was so excited- we said hello- took a couple pictures- and in that moment I realized that Rob is a Northern California phenom- and that he was missing the past month in Worcester MA. There was a flood of memories and nostoligia-. I think Rob was at EVERY SINGLE Grateful Dead show I was at from 1988-1995- that we was synonomous with the magic of a dead show!
Strangers Stopping Strangers is a podcast from a deadhead- made with deadheads- for deadheads. When I though about theoretical people I would love to meet, Rob was on the top of my list. Rob- to me- personifies being a deadhead.
After sitting down and speaking I think that his stories ARE the shows….in their entirety.
Rob shares his memories as they relate back to the music playing, the venue he was at, and the deadheads that surrounded him– wondering & spinning &contributing to the total experience & magic of the whole experience!.
We can go back to the late 80’s and into the 90’s and enjoys some fantastic music- from memorable shows- seeing and hear from the perceptive of the mysterious Dead-y Bear that always made everyone Smile- Smile-Smile…..
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #48- Conversation with Peter Ferioli
Podcast #48- Conversation with Peter Ferioli
This podcast with Peter Feroli is a special one! We met in August at his beautiful home in the Oakland Hills in CA- with views that went all the way to the San Francisco Bay, in HIS podcasting studio- all of which was a WOW afternoon!
Peter is in podcasting- creating & producing for his “real job” which is uncommon – and really cool! He is the man behind The Rock N Roll Archaeology project – which host a selection of podcasts- Deeper Digs- Rock Talk- Reel Rock and others, all relating to music and in particular post mid -20th Century Rock and Roll.
Within his core passion for music is The Grateful Dead -or as its said- he is Dead to the Core…..I walked in and on the bookcase I saw a awesome Deady- Bear collections- every book that I have seen written about the Dead- some original- many signed etc. All this- the view and a REAL microphone & sound system – talking to Peter I was in heaven!
Peter shares his stories around leaving the East Coast on a summer tour 1988, with his wife- working as usher at The Warfield – specifically so he could be there- for the Jerry Garcia Band shows- to inspiration he gained working for Bill Graham Presents. We talk about special time around the band that was a turning point that became an “Grateful Dead Era” in the late 80’s- early 90′. Peter selects some thoughtful songs that supports those memories- including a rap by Ken Kesey on Halloween 1991 after the death of Bill Graham- and the last time we hear Brent play live singing The Weight in Illinois July 1991.
Peter and his wife were so warm and welcoming- and invited my 2 kids to play with their son while we taped the podcast. On the way out he surprised them with gifts- a Bertha Deady Doll for my 7 year old daughter- and a football for my football fanatic 10 year old son- who’d showed up in a jersey that sparked immediate comradery with Peter on that mutual love in life. It felt like visiting family- even though we had JUST met – and it was- meeting part of this family that is our Deadhead community family I am grateful to be a part of!!!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #47- Conversation with Chad Wells
Podcast #47- Conversation with Chad Wells
This week’s podcast I get a chance to talk to Chad Wells- a “friend’ for about a year we finally got a chance to talk about our mutual love for The Dead- the community & music!
Chad and I met via Facebook when I weighed in on a comment & suggested he check out the podcast- he responded that he was already listening! Thinking back a year- this may have been the first time I solicited a listener and they were already familiar- so a bit of a mile stone that was very meaningful.
Chad is the man behind This Day In Grateful Dead History- and incredibly informative & fun blog- pictures that I enjoy following on all social media- especially Facebook where he gets to share the whole scoop on his page-
Dead to the Core- Chad shares with us his deep dive down his rabbit hole on the day Jerry Garcia passed 22 years ago- the rest as they say is history. Picking out some “favorite” songs from “favorite shows” was not an easy task for Chad- because picking a “favorite” is a near impossible task for someone with so much love and dedication for the music…….that said he was able to pull out some fantastic gems- and share with us his feelings behind these specific choices & why they are special to him.
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #46- Conversation with Sam Hirsch-
This podcast is a bit of a bonus episode- up August 9, 2017- to commemorative of The Days Between and the anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s last day August 9, 1995.
Sam Hirsch I have met first virtually on Facebook- and then in person at some shows in the past few months- the last time we were dancing at the rail at JRAD I thought what an AMAZING guest for the podcast- I wanted to know Sam’s story- so I figured all of you would too!
Sam tells us his first time at a Grateful Dead show in 1987 at MSG- and while he was intrigued the whole scene got to be pretty intense during drums & space- and he ducked out for a little air. A few days later he made it back for another show at MSG & it was official that Sam Hirsch was a DEADHEAD!
Sam tells us about some of his time exploring and joining the scene- and the magic of finding a like minded community, where he could be free to fly his freak flag wide and high! He shares his stories and song picks from the late 80’s into the early 90’s including a really fun story about a 6 week tour! In 1995 when Jerry passed- Sam focused on the next chapter of his life – work, and ultimately starting his own business. He still enjoyed the music and festivals – but didn’t feel the tug of energy into the music scene….
But wait- the story has a whole Part 2……..2015 brought us Fare Thee Well, and while Sam didn’t make it to Chicago he watched the streams and could tell something special was brewing. When Dead and Company announced the 2015 tour he was ALL IN for the whole tour- and even able to check Halloween shows and New Years Eve off his bucket list – something he never thought would happen! Sam also discovered his love of riding the rails- getting to the line first to secure that spot resulted in making new friends- to share the experiences of the shows with- adding to the sense of community and so much FUN -from the produce stickers that create comradery- his “Cap family” to a new creative outlet creating artwork- getting out and into this vibrant live music scene has been a real life game changer!
Sam is such a fun- and infectious person to talk to. While making this podcast and re-listening to the conversation I was blown away by his enthusiasm- love for people and making connections & over all energy level which is truly off the charts!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #45- Jerry Garcia 75th Birthday Tribute- Conversation with Jerilyn Lee Brandelius *** Plus Special Wishes
Podcast #45- Jerry Garcia Birthday Tribute- Conversation with Jerilyn Lee Brandelius *** Plus Special Wishes
This episode is a BONUS episode! And it so filled with love- stories- music wishes and more that it has content to be 3 podcasts!
Jerilyn Brandelius and I met last New Years December 31, 2016. Our mutual friend Deb Soloman introduced us- and knew we would get on like a house on fire- and we did! We started talking about making a podcast- but knew we should wait until the timing was right- as the song goes “ All Good Things- In All Good Time “.
Many of you know of Jerylin – a true sister in the Grateful Dead Family from the beautiful book she created – The Grateful Dead Family Album- which was first released on October 1, 1989. I received it for Hanukkah that year- and was a very happy deadhead teenager! So much fun getting to know Jerylin, and very quickly feeling like family…….
Jerilyn has been working on a project which began as digitizing The Grateful Dead Family Album, with the ability to update, now and continuously. The project organically evolved into a community where the book will be well of The Wheel- which is composed of everyone that creates the Dead family – musicians- archivist- business people- plumbers etc…….Weir are Everyone!
The Wheel has been up- in more of an intro phase- and while the spoke are just coming together- today on August 1, 2017- the 75th anniversary of the birth of Jerry Garcia- its time to cover just a little more ground!
Jerilyn and I cover many fun topics! We start off with early days in La Jolla CA- her first time in San Francisco- the story behind the real muse of Sugar Magnolia- Frankie- who was a dancer and could really jump like a Willis in 4 wheel drive- The Grateful Dead Family Album- The Wheel- and some loving memories and sentiment for Jerry- for whom Jerylin was compelled to launch The Wheel for all the deadheads to climb aboard as a gift to Jerry- and the family.
The Wheel can be found at http://www.thegdwheel.com Check it out- the more deadheads sharing their stories- music- and what’s going on now- the more fun it will be for everyone!
After the conversation with Jerilyn I was thrilled to talk to a few friend’s of Jerry- Susanna Millman- Sam Cutler and Dennis McNally who have incredibly heartfelt stories about Jerry- for his 75th- a true honor to hear & share!
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #44-Conversations with Beth Laver~aka~ ohcannabeth! ***Plus Extra Guest Althea!!
Podcast #44- Conversations with Beth Lavar~ aka ~ ohcannabeth! Plus Extra Guest- Althea!!
This week we get to hear the stories and music from Beth Lavar- or know by the Twitterworld Dead Community- ohcannabeth!
While we were in touch via Twitter for the past year or so- we really became connected over Dead & Co Couch Tour and a community thread Beth started the day of Blossom – and is going through today!
Beth takes us to Canada when she discovered The Dead – live tapes- and more. She shares her adventure from summer of 1998 when she was drawn to see the “prophet on the burning shore” which led to on a trip to the West Coat- catching The Other Ones show at Shoreline sealed the deal. Many adventures- places seen- people met- they ultimately made it down to Mountain view CA- of course the show was amazing! Beth and her friend made it back up to British Columbia- over to Victoria Island – and found herself where she calls “home” on the West Coast of Canada….
Beth and I talk about being “born again” Deadheads which is a term I love! From our teen years- Beth, myself and so many others have been Dead to the Core- all our adult lives – somewhere along the line while the music and intrinsic qualities that come with being a deadhead remained in place- identifying yourself as a deadhead was not in the forefront of daily lives. Then in 2015 comes Fare Thee Well + social media groups and relationships on line mushrooming – musicians and bands playing music and set lists inspired by The Dead all over the county- add a Owsley worthy dose called Dead and Company tours and we are BACK and Weir are EVERYWHERE- somewhere at the end of this rainbow is a new generations of deadheads getting on the bus every day- its really all quite extraordinary !
The end of the podcast goes off its beaten path when we end with Let it Grow- it was the right song at the right time. And THEN I connected with Althea- and she tells us upon scrutiny – about why that space was getting hot- along with some additional updates and stories……….
As always- thank you for stopping by & enjoy!

Podcast #43-Conversations with Ben Robinson
Podcast #43- Conversations with Ben Robinson
This weeks podcast is a return of the fantastic series of “21 Century Deadheads”! The story on how Ben and I met was so fun- for us- I have been friends and have worked with his dad, Matt Robinson for the past 10 + years. A couple years ago he told me his son was getting really into music-and in particular the Grateful Dead- cue the slightest eye roll 🙂
It became a hot conversation topic this May when the 2017 Dead and Company tour was coming up- and he said “oh yeah- he will be there too”. I gave Matt a Strangers Stopping Strangers Magnet- and asked him to pass it along- and have Ben look me up.
The next day I got a text from Matt – saying – to my delight- that Ben knew of the podcast! A few minutes later I got a text from Connor Bradley a friend I made from a few podcasts ago saying- “hey I hear you know my friends dad” and the world just got a little bit smaller! A podcast HAD to be put on the books!
Ben and I have so much fun talking about music- The Dead- inspiration he has found- and continues to find as a musician. We were both at the Dead and Company June shows- and while we never got a live meet up- we had a lot of fun breaking down our experiences from that phenomenal weekend!!
As with many of the “21st Century Deadheads” I am getting the honor of meeting and speaking with, Ben is SO passionate about the Dead music- technically – lyrically- breaking down different eras- decades- years- and shows. This kid knows his SHIT!
More and more I feel like this wonderful and precious Deadhead community we call our home is in good hands -Every time that wheel turns round- bound to cover just a little more ground!
Thank you & enjoy-

Podcast #42-Conversations with the Queer Deadhead Community
Podcast #42- Conversations with Queer Deadhead Community
This weeks podcast is a once again a SUPER SIZED one!!
This is also the first “community” podcast- part in person- part over calls with 6 different Deadheads- their stories- music & a beautiful message that speaks to not only Weir are EVERYWERE but also Weir are EVERYONE
I found the Queer Deadhead Facebook group via a post from Joe Rivera on a Dead and Company page. I was welcomed on the spot, and immediately saw that this group was special. A place filled with thoughtful friendships, true connections & some pretty “all in Dead music geeks”.
Marc Laponte and I connected about putting together this podcast for the community, where we could hear from several members from different ages, experiences and locations- to have it out in June for Gay Pride month was the cherry on the sundae! There were so many responses that if time and coordination were not a factor we could have had 30 people on
It was planned to be in person with Joe, Marc and myself with several on a call that that was recorded on Sunday June 19 in Boston before the Dead and Company Fenway Show. We met up- had some sparking rose and had a really fun time- with everyone on the call getting a chance to tell a quick story about what led them to this day. Unfortunately the technology gods were not with us that day. We did the record the in person part- wonderful conversations, but with a bit of echo’s- and the callers portion did not end up reordered. This all being for our pleasure- no stress- especially when we were off to a memorable night at Fenway for an AMAZING show!
As with many things in life- when there is a problem, we can find solutions that end up making things all work out in the best possible way! I was able to speak to 2 of the callers, AJ and Josh, and ended up getting to know each other, and hearing some extended and wonderful stories. I was also able to speak with Garrin and Jason- have a fantastic story- and than got a chance to see them at Citifield for another incredible show- the Aint No Time To Hate flag on the floor really did the trick! While I was not able to get Lisa Jones and Ray Bailys stories on this podcast – the part I did hear over the call was so compelling I will be sure to be in touch and get a part 2 going.
Thank you to the Queer Deadhead community for giving me the honor of sharing your stories- music – and the love you have for one another and this community

Podcast #41- Conversation with Peter White
This weeks podcast is a SUPER SIZED one. It runs over 2 hours-and could easily gone to 4!!
Peter White -aka PawWhite for those tuning in that are in Twitterland. Peter has been the “requested” guest to date “such a great guy” & “he has some amazing stories” I am happy to deliver- and give you 2 plus hours worth 🙂
Peter and I met up to make an person podcast while I was in San Francisco- A lot of chatting and some technical issues we posted to the following Monday, In between were the Dead and Company shows at Shoreline. As always things seem to work out the way they should, now that Peter was no longer a “stranger” but a friend we connected in the lots & got to enjoy the show together for a while. The rescheduled date was that following Monday, so we got to do our was our breakdown and highlights of the show….which was SO Fun!
Peter and talk about early days- travels- the love for this community and more. I agree with every single person who said I should meet Peter, and am happy to now call him friend!
Lastly- after the podcast was made I received an email from Rob Christenson- about the using my logo for a commemorative bottling of a small batch home brew in honor of a close friend and Deadhead, Rick Garrity who recently tragically passed. It was said in his obituary “when he left the room there were no strangers” The first song of this podcast- Scarlet Begonias- is for Rick- hoping the sky is yellow and the sun is blue- he is shaking strangers hands and playing in the hear of gold band

Podcast #40- Conversation with R. A .Fadley
This weeks podcast is a big milestone – a couple days from espisode #1’s first anniversary on June 1st- so far an amazing journey – MANY MANY thank you’s to EVERYONE -guests & listeners! The Deadhead community is really so special and I feel honored and privledged to meet so many strangers- that have become friends- hear and share their stories and music!
Todays podcast is a wonderful example of a stranger- who has become a friend- through another friend I have met through the podcast….. R. A. and I met in the beginning of the year through Kevin Long of Grateful Music to possibly collaborate on a story for Grateful Music. Com. The “story” is still unfolding- ,after being introduced a friendship was made!
R. A. is the man behind Jam Band Purist. He is first and foremost a music fanatic! From that passion for music he became a music journalist and critic, one of the few “critics” out there these days. If there is something that will make a music experience improved he will let you know……if the music experience is perfection- he will let you know. A commitment to the musicians and the fans to advocate for great live music!!
R. A. brought some very cool and new music to us today….starting with what I agree to be the most smoking Dancing in the Streets ever from the acclaimed “holy grail” of Cornell 77′ to a beautiful tribute to the late and great Colonel Bruce Hampton- a much loved pioneer to the jam band community. In between a couple fantastic bands play a couple favorites inspired by The Grateful Dead.
We had so much fun- and could talk forever- to hear and read more from RA at Jam Band Purist you can find him at http://www.jambandpurist.weebly.com as well as on Facebook- Instagram- Twitter. Another place to find his reviews and more great music info is on Grateful Music.com

Podcast #39- Conversation with Sunshine Powers
This weeks podcast I got the pleasure of hearing & sharing the stories & music from the always sparkling Sunshine (Sunny) Powers!
Sunny and I met last New Years Eve Day while I was in SF visiting Haight Street & my friend Jerylin Brandelius- who brought me to her store Love On The Haight- and admiss the craziness of the day we connected and a podcast was put out into the universe. When I got Sunny’s set list it confirmed what I already knew- she is not like other girls!
Sunny takes up on her journey starting with her love for her home, the neighborhood of The Haight, in the great city of San Franciso. Her Brent test she put the new girls through on Intro Grateful Dead 101 at her store Love On The Haight – through her passion over the “down and dirty stuff like the Etta James and Jerry Garcia picks, though the ultimate mission of her days- everyday- is to spread peace- love and good will- even if it means blasting The Magnificant Santuary Band onto Haight Street street to get a passerby to look around and smile. If you live in the SF area- or are visiting SF- her store is amazing- to check it out on line you can find her at http://www.loveonhaightsf.com
Sunny does not only talk the talk- she is walking the walk. She tells us about the organization she was involved with creating and works with called Taking It To The Streets. This non profit organization empowers homeless youth to lead better lives by providing job skills-training- mentoring- safe housing and other services to support self sufficiency of the youth and young adults ages 18-35. To learn more & support please check them out at www.takingittothestreetssf.org
Such a pleasure getting to know Sunny- looking forward to adventures To come when I am “home” in CA

Podcast #38- Conversation with Mason Warner
This weeks podcast I got a chance to talk to and hear stories and music from a new friend Mason Warner.
We met through Instagram, he has an very cool page with Dead related graphic called From The Lot. After connecting and talking, we realized we have made several of the same friends through this community, some commonalities in our early days – our days between -current feelings about what is going on today in the Dead Community- the music and beyond.
We go along on Mason’s journy as a Deadhead and get to hear a meaningful song pick from his first show- his last show – his favorite show- the Dead and Company show that lured him back in & a Strangers Stopping Strangers first – a pick from a JRAD show! As we go through the musical soundtrack we get to hear about his experiences on tour- couch touring & many shout outs- including one to John Mayer- a fan of From The Lot and per Mason’s experiences “an incredibly awesome guy”
The graphic for this podcast is from his first From The Lot Tee- where homage to favorite graphic and tees from tour days, made in very limited quantities -true vintage tees and more- check him out at www.fromthelot.com.
As always so much fun- I think Mason and I could have easily talked for hours & made this podcast twice as long

Podcast #37- Conversation with Ashley Beth
Podcast #37- Conversation with Ashley Beth
This weeks podcast I got the opportunity to talk to & become friends with Ashley Beth- a fantastic woman and the singer for the band Sugar Lime Blue!
The connection to a Grateful Dead based podcast and the connection with Sugar Lime Blue reveals its self throughout our conversation, and within the music selection. One of the most important roots of Deadheads- and the people who follow Sugar Lime Blue, is community. How this podcast came to be is the ultimate expression of that sense of community- a Deadhead & Huge Sugar Lime Blue Fan, (or perhaps Sugar Lime Blue Head?) suggested we talk many, many times on Twitter- and sent an email saying how much he would enjoy this podcast- thank you to pjl1015- I was into it, Strangers Stopping Strangers is all about meeting new like minded people, and was thrilled when Ashley was up for it too!
While there are many things I love about this conversation, one of the coolest is Ashley’s perspective as song writer- singer and a member of a band. It is not that often that you get an opportunity to have such insightful conversation- with someone so relate-able about such topics. And most of all- we had so much FUN!
The best way to find out whats happening with music and tours of Sugar Lime Blue is their website www.sugarlimeblue.com – you can also find them on YouTube ( they do a super cool Sunday shout out eachweek) and of course on Facebook- Twitter and Instagram.

Podcast #36- Conversation with Jason Fisher
This podcast was the outcome of Jason sending me a message! After listening to a few episodes, he wrote in a note, about enjoying a new podcast, which makes me so happy! I emailed him back, we chatted once & this is our second conversation- as always centered around fantastic music picks.
Jason tells us about getting into different music as a teenager and feeling his way around. After getting into Widespread Panic, and a taste of tour shows- he took a deeper dive in. Years later Jason listens to The Dead more than ever before, and is creating memories and experiences with his family that I am sure will be formative to their childhoods – bonus song- both Jackson and Evangeline’s favorite tunes- maybe 6 songs is the new 5 :)??
The first song pick- Let it Rock, by late and great Chuck Berry ( chosen weeks before his death) & my fascination of musical influences, past- present and future in this genre, sets us on an organic theme -which was so much fun to discuss!

Podcast #35- Conversation with Eli Burg
Podcast #35- Conversation with Eli Burg
This weeks podcast is another in what I hope will be a series of “21st Century Deadheads”!
Eli and I connected a little while back- I had the best time hearing his stories and music picks! Growing up with Deadhead parents, Grateful Dead and other classic tunes were part of his childhood soundtrack. One day during sophomore year in high school Eli surprised his Mom when he came home from school and picked out some Dead to listen to together – and the rest was history…..
Eli got to go to Fare Thee Well in Santa Clara- a pretty amazing first live show- followed up with Dead and Company the next summer at Shoreline…..after that he was in for the live shows hook line and sinker! Eli talks about some experiences where the Grateful Dead (the song Mission In The Rain in particular) provided some comfort with musical therapy- something I can certainly relate to & takes us to a 3 show run of Dark Star Orchestra in Berkeley this past February.
The last couple of stories took us to 2 days before we taped the podcast- so as close to real time as I think I’m gonna get. Eli sneaked in a 6th song- so this podcast is super sized, I think we could have talked and played tunes for hours! He excitement is infectious- and and I for one cannot wait to hear what is next along the road for Eli- I’m pretty sure it will include a lot of live music!

Podcast #34- Conversation with Ira Haberman
Podcast #34- Conversation with Ira Haberman
This weeks podcast I get to talk to Ira Haberman- a man that when Googled comes up as “a storyteller” – so needless to say its a great conversation!
Ira and I met in the way I meet many “strangers” through various social media. Ira hosts a podcast called the Sound Podcast, www.thesoundpodcast.com a fantastic listen- where he speaks with musicians, authors, and others related to music- Grateful Dead inspired & into other great genres of music.
One of the thing that is different on this podcast is while most all of the “guests” are strangers when we initially connect, we usually chat on the phone and talk a bit about their back rounds & discuss the music selections. Ira and I talked for the first time on the podcast- so its really a stranger meeting a stranger, hearing and sharing the stories and insights to the community for the first time. We did have a technology blip- so the back half was recorded a few days later- he refers to an “earlier conversation” on an observation- so do want to come clean on that!
The other thing that is a little different is I ask people to pick 3-5 songs- a difficult task for all. Ira came back to me with the Help-Slip-Franklin (really that’s just one song, right?!?) and to fully round out his experiences there is a bonus pick of Blow Away- the collective 6 songs fully highlight each of the band members lead songs & different incarnations of this band beyond description we all love so much!

Podcast #33- Papa Bear ~ May The Four Winds Blow You Safely Home
This weeks podcast is an in person conversation! Papa Bear and I got a chance to meet and talk about his journey with The Grateful Dead- the Deadhead community & friends that become family along the way.
We start as many of these stories do at his first show, Sullivan Stadium, Foxboro MA, July 2 1989. Papa Bear didn’t initially pick a song from this show, but after talking about it- we just had to take a side road and add Eyes of the World- the perfect song from that set list for t for the dawning of a new Deadhead.
Papa Bear tells the stories about a close friend that he met shortly after that first show, who was integral to his life discovering new music and philosophies to live by. After the impromptu 7-2-89 music pick the songs chosen are all entwined with this relationship- and the journey they were on together.
We had so much fun- a lot of laughs and smiles. The extra bonus to getting to meet a “stranger” in person, is getting not just a hopeful plan to see some music together one day- but a firm date & to go out and shake our bones together in the next few months!
Thank you for tuning in- and enjoy!

Podcast #31- Connor Bradley
This weeks podcast with Connor is what I call a 21st Century Deadhead story!
Connor is 20 years old- and is fully ON THE BUS! We talk about his early days listening to his Dad’s mix CD’s that were a mix of Grateful Dead- Harry Chapin and other music legends that in my opinion should be mandatory for parents to teach- AMAZING MUSIC 101. It took a few years, but the foundations was set & in 2011 Connor got a chance to go see Further with his Dad- his life was changed and he became a Deadhead through and through.
We talk about how amazing it is have a community that welcomes generations to the family- his experiences at Dead and Company- and adventures to see Dark Star Orchestra at Penns Peak in Pennsylvania. Connor selected Might as Well from that show- so this weeks podcast is the first, but I’m sure not the last to include some DSO.
I had so much fun meeting Connor & look forward to shaking our bones together this summer at Dead and Company. Connecting with Deadheads from all walks of life- ages and experiences was my inspiration for Strangers Stopping Strangers- I am so grateful to be on this adventure with all the “guests” who have shared their stories and special music choices & all the listeners who are enjoying the ride with me!

Podcast #28- Conversation with Jesse Jarnow
This weeks podcast with Jesse Jarnow- journalist and author of Heads: A Biography of Psychedelic America was awesome to get to make & have no doubt it will be a fun listen!
Jesse and I talk start off the conversations with some characters from in his book, that have influenced psychedelia’s world culture & The Grateful Dead’s involvements in the journey. We talk about his early days with music, discovering the Grateful Dead- and his experience at a show in NYC. Being a journalist, music, and looking for interesting off the beat topics to explore with readers, and finally his thoughts on music with future generations of both musicians and listeners alike.
This podcast is fantastic- not only for the insightful conversations- but per all the podcasts for the MUSIC too! Jesse selected 5 songs that including recently released recordings of Jerry Garcia in 1962 with a band called the Hart Valley Drifters- a tape of Jerry and Phil playing Wandering Man – The Grateful Dead experimenting with the so-called Beautiful Jam at The Capitol Theater in 1971- Jerry’s rendition of Accidentally Like A Martyr recorded in 1977, and finally Robert Hunter singing Box of Rain from the album Jack o’ Roses. I heard all of these songs for the first time while creating this podcast- I would imagine there will be some first time listening out there for you too!
I have attached Jesse’s website that includes information about pieces he has written – and where to find them- and of course the book is

Podcast #27- Conversation with Wendy Rutland
Podcast #27- Wendy Rutland
This weeks podcast with Wendy Rutland was a blast to make! Wendy and I meeting is an awesome example of a stranger meeting a stranger & immediately becoming friends with being Deadheads being the common denominator. Wendy, has spent 20 years working in the film industry. Her passion is music and was worked with a number of big artists. Wendy has a 7 yo son who is a walking Beatles Encyclopedia, she hopes to bring him to see Dead & Co in the near future. Nothing makes Wendy happier than ample space for hardcore dancing
After “meeting” on phone we decided to make the podcast 30 minutes later- a pretty big feat for Wendy- a Deadhead with such a vast amount of love for the music to make song selections & a treasure trove of stories to pick though- I think she did an amazing job!

Jeff were put in touch while I was in CA through our mutual friends Kat and Morgan – as the guy I needed to talk to – to sweet talk myself into a couple tickets to see Stu Allen & Mars Hotel for New Years Eve 2016 into 2017 in Marin County.
We spoke, and a few minutes into the call, he was going to make it happen! Jeff is a chef and a caterer in Northern Ca, and regularly hosts an evening called dinner and a show. He includes friends that enjoy the music scene, invites a great band & cooks up some dinner for everyone. A passion for live music+ his talents as a chef= I am sure a great night for all!
My sister and I ended up going, and having the BEST time! AMAZING band- fantastic little venue- great food & free water- what more could a girl ask for to welcome in 2017!
Jeff told me a bit about his story, an East Coast transplant to California, touring in 1980’s- and a music enthusiast for over 35 years, I called him when I got back- and here we are!
I am sure you will enjoy Jeff’s journey as much as I did, filled with lots of adventures, fabulous shows- as always wonderful music selections.

Podcast #24- Conversation with Rick Bedell
Podcast #24- Rick Bedell
Todays Podcast is the first one of 2017- Happy New Year Everyone!!
This weeks podcast is Rick Bedell- a friend that I met this past November, through his live streaming 24/7 radio station- Fish Creek Radio. When I looked up the site and saw the philosophical statements- Art is Music and Music is Art & Borderless Music Therapy I knew I needed to meet this guy and dig in a little deeper! A few days after we spoke, he put the podcast onto his Saturday, otherwise know as “Deadurday” at the esteemed 4:20 time spot! Since then we have become friends, and I have learned a bit about what led him to this day. I asked if he wanted to be a guest and share- and here we are!
Strangers Stopping Stranger’s podcast belongs to the guest and what they want to share with the community. Many have followed the sequences of shows they have attended- stories about those adventures. Because each deadhead is unique, their podcast is as well- and will continue to be so. Rick picked out a few of the songs that are significant to him- and meaningful as to how he lives his life. They are all stellar versions, chosen from live sow albums. Mid way through our conversation, I realized that this was so fitting for the first podcast of 2017. I not only learned about Rick, but took away some beautiful insights, that will hopefully stay with me as we roll into the new year.
We talk about Fishcreek Radio- his passion, what they do- the people involved who are “really a bunch of hippies in Michigan” having the best time creating interesting music selections for the world to enjoy- I have attached the link below for you to check out!
As always- thank you for listening- enjoy- and cheers to 2017!

Podcast #22- Conversation with Matt Day- Deadhead From Down Under
Podcast #22- Conversation with Matt Day- Deadhead from Down Under
This weeks podcast is Strangers Stopping Strangers first international guest!
Matt lives in Byron Bay, Australia- connecting one another is the really the ultimate in “stranger meeting a stranger”- and “weir are everywhere” all in one!
Matt’s story is a fun one! As this podcast goes, we start at the beginning- finding Grateful Dead music, beyond the classic studio releases- in Melbourne in the mid 1980’s was a bit of a challenge, but did not deter Matt from his path to becoming a committed Deadhead! A couple deadheads come into his life, and leave behind some tapes- and the rest really was history.
Matt’s stories take us to the US, some stories a little sketchy for a young guy hailing from the beaches of pre-urbanized Melbourne, and of course some stories are filled with crazy road trip adventures filled with love & magic- which has him coming back to see the music and be part of the community -as often as he can. In the middle of all these memories , Matt tells us about his Grateful Dead radio show, I think is a dream for all us deadheads !
Before the podcast- after we met and became friends, Matt shared with me an essay he wrote from his experience at Fare Thee Well Summer 2015. It is so beautiful- and brought me right along as if I was in his pocket. I am sharing this for you to as well- the link is attached. matt-day-fare-thee-well

Podcast #21- Conversation with Chuck Harris
Podcast #21- Chuck Harris- SUPER FAN
This weeks podcast’s guest I think is best described as a SUPER FAN- of The Grateful Dead- of music and of life.
The reason we met one could say is circumstantially less than ideal- but since we have connected, first on email, than text and now over phone, has been very impactful- in the best way possible,
Chuck stumbled upon the podcast while receiving treatments. He is a voracious listener of music – always- but while in treatment he explains how the music takes him to San Francisco’s Winter land in 1972 or to MSG in 1988- really all over the world- at every and any time. He loves the deadhead community, and was so happy to listen to the stories and music together on Strangers Stopping Strangers podcast!
I am one of MANY people who have entered into Chucks life in recent years. People that have added to his therapy through the music & community. There are some pretty incredible names in this line up- but I’ll save that for Chuck to share. These stories are just a small selection of all the amazing support- love &music that has embraced him.
A true ray of light- who uses more emoji’s in his correspondence – to exude as much LOVE-MUSIC-MAGIC-DANCING-as possible (I thought I was liberal with them :)! ) He is one of the most passionate and grateful people I have spoken to- and such an honor to hear and share some stories and music !!
Please enjoy!

Podcast #20- Conversation with Scott Guberman- Professional Musician
I am thrilled for this weeks podcast with Scott Guberman- professional musician- keyboard and vocals. While the music played on the past 19 podcasts have ranged from Grateful Dead- to Grateful Dead incarnation bands- today you get to hear stories and music played all in one!
Scott shares his incredibly inspirational story filled with gratitude and nothing less than “pinch me I must be dreaming” feelings. His story beginning like many of us deadheads hearing a Grateful Dead show in the late 80’s- MSG New York – and leaving a person with a whole new perspective on music- and the magic you get from seeing the band play. Being a musician-experiencing the Dead- not only changed what he listen to- but what he played and was inspired by!
Years of playing with talented musicians on the East Coast gave Scott lots of experiences playing East Coast tours- was wonderful- but he still had his eye on playing with core Grateful Dead band members- so Scott and his wonderful wife decided to take a trip out to Northern California for a vacation- and see where life takes them!
The next part of the story is pure magic- and his dreams comes true-……and leads us into the music choices that are chosen to listen to today!
Thank you for listening- and ENJOY!

Podcast #18- Conversation with Fat_Man_Rocks- AKA Dave the Lawyer
This podcast is textbook for Strangers Stopping Strangers – a stranger meeting a stranger and hearing their stories, songs and magical experiences that brought him into the Deadhead community- hook, line and sinker!
Fat_Man _Rocks- is what I am consider a leader in the Grateful Dead Twitter community. He shows up everyday- often multiply times a day to share lyrics- pictures- and delivers an overall smile for people to enjoy- and TONS & TONS of people follow him for this reason. There is no business- website- or anything commerce related to his tweets. It is simply for the joy of it, for himself and the community!
Of course I wanted to know the man behind the Jerry avatar- and so here we are! We get the chance to meet Dave, hear some fabulous stories from his experiences at shows- songs that were game changers- a couple birthday celebrations- and a classic road trip to Las Vegas in 1991!
This podcast was so fun to make- because Dave is that deadhead you met in the Shakedown Street section of the lot– shared a bowl & a dance with- and found out you were parked next to his car on the way out …..

Podcast #17- Conversation with Michelle Rothe & Extra Guest Chicken Shack
This weeks podcast is very special to me- and so fun to make! My guest is far from a stranger stopping a stranger, it is my first best friend, and big sister Michelle- so welcome to the family!
Michelle – as many older siblings, was very instrumental to me listening to the Dead, and wanting to go see a show. Our amazing Auntie Annie introduced us both to the music in our teen years…..so for both us the ties are steeped in family. Todays podcast starts with her adventures into the scene as a senior in high school, seeing The Grateful Dead at Laguna Seca Raceway in 1987- with me dying to tag alone…..to when I jumped onto the bus, and away we went down the rabbit hole!
Our conversation takes us through the late 80’s- early 90’s- highlighted with the Grateful Dead’s last New Year’s Eve show 1991 into 1992. Fast forwards to Michelle enjoying later New Years Furthur shows with her husband Chris – and to Dead and Company this past summer in 2016 at Fenway……a journey that has been filled with love- memories , fun and a whole lot a dancing and shaking our family’s Shakedown Street.
Thank you for listening- and enjoy!

Podcast #16- Conversation with Scott W Allen
Podcast #16 Conversation with Scott W Allen
This weeks podcast I had the pleasure of talking to Scott W Allen- Deadhead- Teacher & Author!
Scott wrote the book Aces Back to Back, published in 1992. A second addition was released in early 2014, and Facebook page named Aces Back to Back- that was created to support- my first taste with Grateful Dead & Social Media. I read (and loved) the book, started followed the fantastic site and was HOOKED! I never knew there was an entire community on line with daily updates on music history, pictures, show links etc….since then it’s been a deep dive, that ultimately inspired this podcast, & wanting to “get into the conversation”.
Scott takes on his journey that “led up to this day”. His transition from being a rock n roll loving teenager going to concerts to his first Dead “show”. We hear about adventures throughout the years – travelling through the US, seeing the country and all those amazing shows along the way. We talk about his hunt for some of the elusive songs the band held back through the 80’s- and pay out of hearing those first chords of St Stephen in 83′ at Nassau Coliseum & Darkstar in 89′ during a special run when the band reverted back to the name The Warlocks as an experiment to changing the East Coast scene into a kinder place, that resonated with their beginnings and vibes.
Lastly- we get come sneak peek information about the projects Scott is working on, and thoughts on what we can look forward to for live shows in the year to come.
Thank you for listening- and enjoy!
